Oh no they didn't! Oh hell yes....yes they did. Three ass kicking rock monsters up here in the 206 have managed to create a website that makes touring so easy that I am thinking about hitting the road myself (Of course....I probably should think about putting a band together first)!

The brain child of this Chuck Taylor wearing think tank is called Righteous Pursuit (http://www.righteouspursuit.com). These folks have tapped the keg on their years of experience and voluminous network of contacts to distill all of that gold to bands and managers from Willacoochie, GA to Bellingham, WA and beyond. The site contains a complete club and venue database, contract templates, riders (if you don't know what a rider is...just stop reading and get your ass over to Righteous Pursuit because you NEED them more than you need the rest of this blog), tour posters, mailing list templates and more! Consider it a sort of textbook for the Touring 101 class that you have always dreamed of.

The best part of it is....... that's not all (Ron Popeil would be so proud)!!!! Righteous Pursuit also includes a section dubbed "Warriors" that brings you articles, interviews, and information from artists and professionals who are out on the road right now! The Forum is pretty awesome as well (You will catch the Audiodaddy himself popping up on there from time to time).

To access the databases there is a small fee (Trust me, for the information you are getting they ask a mere pittance. Don't be jerk, pay the nice lady and take the ride). It is well worth it. Get yourself right over there and check out their site tour to get more information. For the cheapskates out there...the Forum and Warriors section are free and quite useful, but I do highly recommed becoming a full fledged member.

Go! All of you! What are you still doing here! Go to Righteous Pursuit (http://www.righteouspursuit.com) and join up now! Learn the ways young grasshoppas and one day you too might be able to rock my socks (IF you're lucky!)

Great googly moogly it's almost 2007 and I am ready for the clean slate. Kind of odd that my first entry on my live journal spot would be a retrospective, but so be it. Welcome to all of you who haven't read my babblings in the past and to those of you who have, welcome back (What are you thinking?! Don't you have jobs?!). In that we are on the verge of the new year, I'm sure we will see a lot of the year in music type postings...so, here's mine. Enjoy!
2006 was an interesting year for music to say the least. We saw the digital revolution in music continue to gain speed, a small resurgence in live performance, new ground broken for a couple of genres in both the U.S. and Europe, and we said goodbye to bands we loved and legends that we adored.
On the digital front the band Keane became the first band ever to release a song on USB memory stick with the tune "Nothing In My Way." This was just one signpost in the continued upswing in creativity and digital pioneering in the world of music. I can only hope that 2007 will bring much more of the same.
Microsoft finally decided to get in the ring with rival Apple and released their version of a personal digital media player called the "Zune." Living in the Pacific Northwest I witnessed Microsoft's passionate push to gain recognition and some positive feedback on their new toy. Early reviews for the Zune were luke warm at best with even my Magic 8 Ball agreeing that the outlook wasn't good for Microsoft's ambitious little jukebox. Only time will tell on that one, but I don't see the market share shifting any time soon. Nice try guys.
American Idol has nothing on the Eurovision Song Contest which saw a big time first in their thirty year history. The usually pop driven (credited with lifting up Swedish Super Group ABBA) contest crowned it's first ever champion from the world of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal when Finnish ass kickers Lordi took out the competition with "Hard Rock Hallelujah." Get an eye and an ear full of this shit! Rock on you freaks!

Three 6 Mafia also broke some major league ground this year becoming the first African-American Hip Hop group to win "Best Song" at the Academy Awards. They swooped up the hardware for the song "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp" which was featured in John Singleton's film "Hustle & Flow" Three 6 decided not to stop there and made it an even more important night by becoming the first hip hop act to ever perform at the Academy Awards Ceremony. I couldn't find a clip from the awrds that I liked, so dig on the video.

In the world of live performance we saw the Rolling Stones draw record setting crowds in Brazil while Manu Chao packed them in with a show in Columbia pulling in the neighborhood of 80,000 people. The continued popularity of the festival scene was a bright spot for me with the continuation of festival favorites like Coachella (CA), Bonnaroo (TN), and Bumbershoot (WA). Lollapalooza made a triumphant return with a new incarnation as a single city, three day festival in Chicago with a stunning line up. The Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington hosted the Sasquatch festival again this past year. Sasquatch saw some substatial growth this year becoming a three day festival for the first time, simulcasting on MSN, and hosting a wide ranging bill that inclluded acts from Nine Inch Nails, to The Flaming Lips, to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, and Common Market.

2006 brought some old favorites back together. We saw Alice In Chains recruit a new front man, take the stage, and head back into the studio. There were other reunions this year including rumblings from Queen and even Blind Melon. What about the break ups? I'm pretty sure we've all heard more than enough about Britney Spears (aka Slutty McSkankerson) and FedEx. Although I am absolutely positive that story hasn't produced it's funniest material yet. Band wise we did bid adeiu to the likes of Cold, Grandaddy, Sleater-Kinney, Vendetta Red, and Pedro the Lion. We also saw a slew of bands got on 'hiatus' not least among them, Weezer and Garbage.

The hardest goodbyes of 2006 came as we all mourned the loss of some giant in the world of music. This list isn't by any means complete and in no ways minimizes the death of anyone elsee in the music world. These are just some of the names that made a lasting imprssion in my life: Buck Owens, Wilson Pickett, Billy Preston, Syd Barrett, Ahmet Ertegun, Gerald Levert, and James Brown. May you all rest in peace. The world will always treasure your incredible musical contributions. Let's all pause and remember our most recently departed brother, Mr. James Brown ala the comedic genius of on Eddie Murphy and SNL....

And finally.....I have to give out my award for the finest contribution to music in 2006. Drum roll please......hello?! At least pound on your desks or something.......go on........thank you. And the awards goes to....Justin Timberlake. That's right, I said it. Just shut up and watch. Then dare to tell me I'm wrong about this one.

Happy New Year Suckas.
